To my fellow parents dealing with Autism,
I see you and I see your nerves about the upcoming Holidays.
Although the season brings joy to many, it also brings a sleigh full of challenges for families navigating Autism.
During the holidays the stable environment we strive so hard to create the rest of the year is disrupted by bright lights, loud music, crowded spaces and unknown toys hidden behind wrapping paper. For many with Autism, these elements can contribute to a meltdown.
As you start your holiday season this week, remember to prioritize your family's well-being. Advocate for your child's needs, even if that means modifying or eliminating traditions. And most importantly, discover the joy in the season in any way you can.
For us this means restricting our holiday schedule and making a point to share with friends and family that any presents intended for Brantley should not be wrapped.
Give yourself grace. The season can be hard, do what works for you and what works for your child.
Wishing you and your family a season filled with grace and understanding.
Love,
Ashley - Raising Brantley
