Barefoot Adventures: Embracing Life’s Simple Pleasures

Knowing Brantley means understanding his obsession with going barefoot. He’s all about soaking in the tactile sensation of the ground beneath him.

And boy, does he live it up. Socks and shoes are a rarity for Brantley, despite my best efforts to keep his feet covered. As a result, his feet are almost always caked in dirt. I’ve got this theory that the filthier his feet, the happier his heart. Just today, he tore through the backyard, leaving his shoes by the fence, his square face beaming with joy as he felt the dirt between his toes.

For weeks, Brantley has been trying to free my feet from their socks right along with his own. I’m not entirely sure if he’s trying to spread some joy or snag my socks for his own stimming sessions. But, his determination to set my feet free says a lot about his insatiable curiosity and love for life’s simple pleasures.

It makes me think, we put so much effort into keeping our kids entertained and curious. But maybe, just maybe, the real joy lies in kicking off our socks and feeling the earth beneath our feet once in a while. #autismfamily #highsupportneeds #autismlife #sensoryseeker
