Navigating Holiday Magic: Pica Poses Unique Challenges for the Elf on the Shelf

Raising a child with pica brings unique challenges to Elf on the Shelf. The established guideline for an Elf is clear: children must not touch, let alone consume, the elf. However, Brantley has his own rule – he's determined to consume anything and everything within his reach.

Thankfully, Santa heeded the memo, and sent us Griswold, a lively elf who seems to understand that he must perpetually remain out of Brantley's reach. In the three years we have had Griswold, there was just one instance when Brantley claimed him with his adventurous grasp. Despite Bronson's lingering nightmares from that day, we're grateful that Griswold escaped with minimal harm.

Continuing our yearly tradition with Griswold, the lessons from that near mishap linger. Each holiday season, we're reminded of the enchantment and delight this mischievous elf brings, as long as he is perched just beyond Brantley’s grasp.

He prefers to land on light fixtures, shelf’s, in balloons, on our kitchen window sill and anywhere else that keeps him in our children’s eyesight but out of reach. Our festive memories interweave tales of resilience, laughter, and Griswold's ever-watchful eyes, ensuring that, despite the hurdles pica throws into our holiday, the festive spirit endures in our home.
