Can someone pinch me? This feels too surreal to be true.
After what feels like an eternity of waiting on insurance, Medicaid, and various agencies to help us get a medically necessary safety bed for Brantley, we finally reached a breaking point last week. Brantley had mastered the art of opening doors, which escalated his already dangerous nightly behaviors to new heights. So, like any determined family, we took matters into our own hands.
We decided that a traditional safety bed was financially out of reach and also felt too clinical for our loveable wild child. So we took on the ambitious project of modifying a Pottery Barn bed into a Safe Haven House Bed for Brantley—a sanctuary to keep him calm and out of harm's way during the night.
Tonight will mark a milestone: Brantley will rest safely for the first time. No more worrying about him eating drywall, eloping, busting electrical outlets, or breaking windows. Tonight, I won't worry, because my sweet boy will be safe.
